Royal Armouries Desktop Onager kit Designed and manufactured here in Sheffield, made for The Royal Armouries Museum as part of their gift range. The Trebuchet kit is one of three Siege Engine kits currently on offer.

After working closely with the archive department at The Royal Armouries and looking at a large number of historical documents, The Onager remains loyal to the recorded illustrations of these magnificent Siege Engines that were used to devastating effect throughout the Medieval period.

The Onagers of the Roman Empire were mainly used for besieging forts or settlements. They would often be armed with large stones that could be covered with a combustible substance and set alight.

It derived its name from the kicking action of the machine, similar to that of an onager (wild ass).

Now we can't claim that this model will produce anything like the level of destruction described above but we can say with complete confidence that once it is built it will provide hours of fun-filled imaginative play. Each kit comes with 4 paper balls to hurl about the room but know that nothing will get broken! The building process is a great way to spend an afternoon focused on the creation of something new and who knows, maybe learn a little bit about engineering and mechanics along the way. You won't need any additional tools or equipment to construct it, just a clear workspace.

All of our kits are produced from 100% FSC approved commercial timber and the material itself is a sourced from a by-product of the logging industry. Our packaging is unbleached and fully recyclable.
